Blood Flow Restriction
Blood Flow Restriction is a technique that has become common practice in rehab within the past few years that uses the intermittent occlusion of blood flow to a limb using a tourniquet while at rest or exercise.
To gain muscle strength and size under normal conditions, someone would need to perform resistance training at 65-90% of their 1 rep max. But after an injury or surgery, this would be impossible due to the pain, disuse, atrophy, or movement restrictions.
Using BFR, you can exercise using significantly less weight of 20-35% of your 1 rep max and still achieve significant gains in muscle strength and size all while protecting the healing tissue. This means you can exercise with a resistance that will not cause pain and still achieve increased muscle strength in a short amount of time leading to a faster recovery with better results.
The benefits of Blood Flow Restriction training are numerous
Acute Injury - Unable to exercise due to pain.
Gain strength while recovering without damaging the healing tissue.
Gain strength faster than normal resistance training alone.
Improve healing to bone, muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Surgery - Unable to exercise due to surgical restrictions.
Use BFR while still immobilized (2-3 weeks post-op) combined with electrical stimulation for reducing muscle atrophy during recovery.
Improve healing to bone, muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Athletes
Gain strength and size faster in a safe manner without overloading your body.
Improve cardiovascular health and performance.
45 minute, BFR training only appointments are now available only AFTER your initial evaluation, and if appropriate for your treatment plan.
